Kia sold 110,000 EVs in Q2, with the PV5 and new low-cost models leading the way

July 24, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 18

This is car sales news, not a home energy story, but here's what happened. Kia sold 110,000 fully electric vehicles worldwide in the second quarter of 2026, up 88% from a year earlier. Growth was strongest in South Korea and Western Europe, driven by the PV5 electric van and newer, smaller EVs like the EV2, EV4, and EV5. Kia's hybrid sales also jumped 61%, with US buyers in particular favoring hybrids like the Telluride and Seltos over full electrics.

For US shoppers, the more relevant detail may be pricing and timing rather than the sales figures themselves. Kia plans to launch the all-electric EV3 SUV in the US by the end of 2026, along with a new Sportage Hybrid built at a Hyundai Motor Group plant in the US. In Europe, Kia is working to make the EV2 and EV4 more affordable as local production ramps up; the EV2 Long Range recently went on sale in Germany with about 281 miles of range, starting around $38,300, though pricing for the US market wasn't given.

None of this changes home energy upgrade options directly, but it's a sign more affordable EV choices, including smaller SUVs and vans, are headed to showrooms over the next year. If you're weighing an EV purchase alongside things like a home charger or solar setup, it may be worth watching for US pricing and availability details on the EV3 and Sportage Hybrid as they get closer to launch.
