Kia reveals another low-cost EV that we’ll sadly never get to see

July 15, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 14

This news is about a car launch overseas, not a home energy program, but here's the gist for anyone curious. Kia just unveiled a new low-cost electric SUV called the Syros, sold only in India. It comes with two battery options and a driving range of up to 326 miles, plus fast charging from 10% to 80% in 39 minutes. Pre-orders opened this week, with a price expected around $19,200 once it goes on sale later this month.

None of this applies directly to US homeowners thinking about home upgrades, since the Syros won't be sold in the United States. Kia's US lineup currently includes the EV6, Niro EV, and EV9, and the Niro EV is being phased out. Its replacement, the EV3, is expected to arrive in the US later this year with a starting price under $35,000 and a range estimated at up to 320 miles, making it one of the more affordable electric vehicles available domestically.

If you're weighing whether an EV purchase might pair with home upgrades, like installing a home charger alongside things such as insulation or a heat pump for heating and cooling, the EV3's expected arrival later this year could be worth watching. But specifics on price, charging equipment, or any related incentives for US buyers were not part of this announcement.
