Kia adds new PV5 Chassis Cab with ‘endless’ conversions, including a camper

September 29, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 12

This is news about a commercial electric vehicle, not something tied to home energy upgrades or rebates. Kia is adding a new version of its PV5 electric van, called the Chassis Cab, which has an open bed that can be converted into different vehicle types, such as a tipper truck, food truck, or camper van. It will be sold in the UK and Europe starting sometime in 2026, with prices and conversion options varying by market.

The van comes with a 71.2 kWh battery in the UK, giving a range of up to 258 miles, while other markets will also offer a smaller 51.1 kWh battery option. It can fast-charge from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes, or fully charge in roughly 6.5 hours on a home-style 11 kW charger. Kia says the model can carry up to 1,005 kg (about 2,200 lbs) of cargo, depending on the conversion, and has a tight turning radius meant for city driving or job sites.

This is a business and fleet vehicle story rather than a home upgrade one. It does not involve any home energy equipment, heat pumps, insulation, or rebate programs, so there is nothing here that changes what a homeowner might do to their house. It is only relevant if you are curious about the broader shift toward electric vans and trucks.
