Jaguar’s controversial Type 01 EV looks like a comic book villain would drive it
This one isn't about home energy upgrades or rebates, but here's the gist since it touches on EVs: Jaguar has shown the final design of its Type 01, the first production car built on the brand's controversial new look it first previewed in late 2024. The styling carries over the bold, unconventional design of that original concept, with a long hood and blocky, angular lines, just toned down slightly from the hot pink of the early show car.
Under the sheet metal, three electric motors produce 1,016 horsepower, enough to push the roughly 6,000-pound car from 0 to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds. It runs on an 850-volt, 120 kilowatt-hour battery rated for 400 miles of range, and can charge from 10 to 80 percent in 22 minutes on a fast 350kW charger, or add 200 miles in 13 minutes. There's no rear window; drivers see behind the car through a camera instead. Inside, Jaguar kept physical buttons to a minimum in favor of a small touchscreen, and added extras like massage seats and scent options for the cabin.
Pricing starts at 130,000 British pounds, or about $172,000. Jaguar plans to open orders in early 2027, with deliveries later that year. For homeowners thinking about EV charging at home, the practical takeaway is simply that automakers keep pushing toward faster charging speeds and longer range, trends that matter more broadly than this one expensive model.
