United Dairy Farmers, the Ohio ice cream and convenience store chain, is adding fast EV chargers to six of its 170 stores, with openings expected to start in early 2027. These are DC fast chargers, which can recharge a car much quicker than a regular home outlet, and they're being added at some of UDF's newer stores that already have food, indoor and outdoor seating, and wifi. The idea is that drivers can grab ice cream or a snack while their car charges.
The chargers are being funded partly through Ohio's share of NEVI, a federal program that pays for EV charging stations along highways and in communities. UDF applied for funding at six sites across the Cincinnati and Columbus areas and was approved for all of them. The locations are in Hilliard, Lebanon, Mason, Maineville, and two spots in Cincinnati. Exact charging speeds, plug types, and pricing haven't been released yet, though the chargers will likely be fast enough to meet Ohio's NEVI requirements. UDF also plans to let drivers use its U-Drive Plus loyalty credits toward charging costs and earn more credits through store purchases.
For homeowners in or near Greater Cincinnati or Columbus who drive an EV, this could mean a new convenient charging stop closer to home, especially useful for road trips or days when home charging isn't enough. UDF hasn't announced specific opening dates yet and says it will use early demand and customer feedback to decide how much further to expand the charging network.
