Huber Zip System – Peel and stick underlayment – gone?

October 14, 2026 · Green Building Advisor · Score: 45

A builder on a building-science forum is asking whether Huber's peel-and-stick underlayment, a self-adhering membrane used with the Zip System wall and roof sheathing, has been discontinued. Huber's Zip panels come pre-coated with a water-resistant layer, and builders typically seal the seams with Zip tape, stretch tape, and liquid flash. The peel-and-stick product is an additional option for sealing or flashing tricky spots, and it had come with a manufacturer rebate. The poster says they can no longer find any information about it on Huber's website, and links from older articles about the product now lead to dead pages.

No one has answered the question yet, and there's no official word from Huber confirming a discontinuation. This is really more of an open question from one builder than confirmed news.

If your home has Zip System sheathing installed, or you're planning a project that specs this peel-and-stick underlayment, it's worth checking directly with Huber or your supplier before assuming it's still available, especially if you were counting on the rebate. Builders usually have backup methods for sealing Zip seams even without this particular product, so a discontinuation wouldn't necessarily stop a project, but it could change costs or the specific materials used.
