How Can Condensation Occur at Higher Air Temperature?
Most people know condensation as something that happens when air cools down, like dew forming on grass overnight or moisture on a cold window. That's because water vapor turns to liquid at a certain temperature, called the dew point, and cooling air below that point causes condensation.
But condensation can also happen when air gets warmer, and the explanation comes down to pressure. Just as water boils at a lower temperature at high elevation (where air pressure is lower) and cooks faster in a pressure cooker (where pressure is higher), the dew point temperature also shifts with pressure. Raise the pressure high enough, and water vapor will condense even at a higher temperature. This is why air compressors, which pack air to five or ten times normal atmospheric pressure, collect water in their tanks after use, even on a warm day. The moisture didn't come from a temperature drop, it came from the pressure increase.
This is mostly a curiosity rather than something that affects your house directly, since the pressure swings from weather changes are far too small to trigger this effect. Normal home condensation problems, like moisture on windows, in attics, or inside walls, still follow the familiar rule: they happen when moist air meets a surface at or below its dew point, not because of pressure changes inside your home.
