Green SM Starts Amsterdam Taxi Pilot, Bringing the Green EV to Europe

September 26, 2026 · CleanTechnica · Score: 2

Vietnamese electric mobility company Green SM has launched a pilot electric taxi service in Amsterdam, using vehicles from automaker VinFast. The service starts in the Centrum, West, and Zuid districts, with plans to expand into Oost, Noord, Nieuw-West, and Zuidoost as the company builds up its driver network and fine-tunes operations. This is Green SM's second European market after Copenhagen, Denmark, where it began operating in July, and its eighth market worldwide.

For riders, the main draw right now is price: Green SM is offering a 50% discount per trip, capped at 30 euros, for up to 10 rides during the pilot period. The company is also recruiting drivers in Amsterdam, offering both direct employment and a vehicle-rental option where drivers can keep up to 85% of trip revenue.

This is a taxi and ride-hailing launch, not a home energy program, so it has no direct bearing on rebates, weatherization, or upgrades to your house. It's worth noting mainly as another sign of electric vehicles expanding into everyday transportation across Europe, following VinFast's earlier moves into the Dutch market with cars and electric buses. If you're in or visiting Amsterdam, you may see these EVs on the street or have the option to book one at a discount while the pilot is underway, but there's nothing here that affects home energy planning.
