Glint Solar unveils project site viability software

September 2, 2026 · Solar Power World · Score: 18

A software company called Glint Solar has launched a new tool aimed at large-scale solar and battery storage developers, not homeowners. The tool, called Land Screening, lets developers search an entire state to find good sites for big solar and storage projects, using data on the power grid, permitting rules, protected land, zoning, and terrain. It's built to speed up the early planning process for utility-scale projects, the kind that power the grid rather than sit on a house roof.

This news doesn't involve homeowner rebates, incentives, or rooftop solar programs. It's about how commercial developers pick land for large solar farms and storage facilities, which is a different scale and process from installing solar panels or a battery on your own home. The tool is currently available in Illinois, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Massachusetts, with more states expected later.

That said, big solar and storage projects can affect the grid your home connects to over time. Faster, more efficient siting of these projects could, in theory, help ease grid capacity constraints that developers say are currently a bottleneck. But there's nothing here that changes what a homeowner should expect to pay, qualify for, or do differently when it comes to home energy upgrades. If you're weighing solar for your own roof or looking into efficiency rebates, this development doesn't change your options — it's a story about how utility-scale developers plan their projects, not about residential programs.
