Ford shares a closer look at the $30,000 Fathom EV pickup [Video]
Ford has confirmed its new midsize electric pickup, the Fathom, will go on sale in early 2027 starting at $28,350. That price is for the standard-range version and doesn't include a $1,595 delivery fee, but even with that fee the truck stays under $30,000, making it one of the cheapest EVs sold in the US.
Ford says the Fathom will have more passenger room than a Toyota RAV4, not counting its truck bed and front trunk. It's also set to be the first vehicle with Apple Maps built directly into the dashboard navigation, alongside wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a large touchscreen, Ford's hands-free driving system BlueCruise, a digital key, and bidirectional charging, which lets the truck's battery send power back out, useful for running devices or potentially backing up a home during an outage. It will also charge at Tesla Superchargers through a built-in NACS port, the charging standard Tesla developed that many automakers are adopting. Ford hasn't released full specs yet, but expects the range to be at least 300 miles.
Production starts in the first quarter of 2027 at Ford's Louisville plant. CEO Jim Farley recently shared a video of a camouflaged Fathom undergoing hot-weather testing in the desert. For homeowners considering an EV, especially one with backup power potential, this is one to watch as more details and official specs come out closer to launch.
