EVgo is adding 400+ fast chargers where you grocery shop
EVgo is putting in more than 400 new fast chargers for electric vehicles at shopping centers anchored by grocery stores. The chargers are going into properties owned by Regency Centers, a company that develops shopping plazas built around supermarkets like Publix, Kroger, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Safeway, and Albertsons. Planned locations span Colorado, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and other states, though no construction timeline has been announced.
Each site will have up to 24 high-power fast chargers, which EVgo says can charge some EVs fully in as little as 15 minutes. The idea is to let drivers plug in while doing something they'd already be doing anyway, like grocery shopping or grabbing food, rather than making a special trip just to charge. EVgo says about half of drivers who stop at a charging site go into a nearby store or restaurant.
This is EVgo's second phase of working with Regency: the first charger went in back in 2020, and the company now runs more than 150 charging stalls at Regency properties. The new additions will grow Regency's total charging footprint by more than 20 percent. For homeowners who drive or are considering an EV, this could mean more convenient, faster charging options popping up at your regular grocery store in the coming months, depending on whether your area is one of the states listed.
