Electric vehicle sales in the US are still down from last year's high point, but they rose more than 20% last month, and the trend is moving up again. Sales had spiked last year as buyers rushed to use a federal tax credit before it expired in September 2025, then dropped off afterward. That pull-forward effect now seems to be fading, letting the market settle into a steadier pace.
Elsewhere, EV sales are surging. Global deliveries hit a record 2 million in June, driven largely by strong demand in Europe, with more affordable Chinese-made EVs also gaining ground in Southeast Asia, South America, and Africa.
Closer to home, California has rolled out a new EV incentive worth $3,500. The rebate is structured in a way that favors buyers of Rivian and Lucid vehicles over Tesla, so if you're in California and shopping for an EV, it's worth checking how the incentive applies to the specific make and model you're considering, since the benefit isn't the same across all brands. As with other state EV incentives, eligibility and amounts can vary, so it's worth checking your own state's current offerings if you're weighing an electric vehicle purchase.
