Dubai VDX becomes world’s first purpose-built eVTOL vertiport
This is aviation news, not a home energy story, but here is what happened: Dubai has certified what developers call the world's first purpose-built vertiport for eVTOLs — small, battery-powered aircraft that take off and land straight up, without a runway. The facility, called VDX, was built by Skyports Infrastructure and just received certification from the UAE's General Civil Aviation Authority, clearing the way for commercial air taxi flights to begin.
The site has two landing pads and fast DC charging so the electric aircraft can recharge quickly between flights. At about 33,500 square feet, it's designed to handle up to 170,000 passengers a year and will serve as the main hub in Dubai's planned air taxi network, which includes three more vertiports now under development. The project is a partnership between Skyports and Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority.
None of this affects home energy upgrades or rebates. It's a look at how electric aviation infrastructure is developing in Dubai, aimed at short urban trips by air taxi rather than anything homeowners would use or benefit from directly.
