DeLorean may have a flying car in the air before Tesla does [video]
This one is not about home energy upgrades, so there's nothing here that affects your house or your rebate plans. It's a car and racing story: DeLorean, the company behind the stainless-steel sports car from the 1980s, is entering a flying car racing series called Airspeeder. The brand will field an electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicle, known as an eVTOL, using a standard racing chassis shared by all teams in the series. For the 2027-28 season, DeLorean plans to work with student engineering teams from UC Berkeley and Georgia Tech to build its own eVTOL racer from scratch.
The timing is notable mainly as a bit of industry trivia: the announcement landed on the same day Tesla was expected to show off hovering technology for its long-delayed Roadster 2.0. Tesla's CEO has openly drawn on the DeLorean time machine from the Back to the Future movies for design cues on vehicles like the Cybertruck and the Model X, so seeing an actual DeLorean-branded flying vehicle take shape first struck some as ironic.
There is no rebate, technology, or deadline here relevant to home energy projects. It is simply a novelty item about two car brands chasing flying-vehicle bragging rights, worth knowing only if you follow EV and auto industry news for its own sake.
