Delaware advances 16 MW of community solar projects

September 11, 2026 · Solar Power World · Score: 30

Delaware is moving ahead with four new community solar projects in Seaford, Townsend and Clayton, together expected to generate more than 16 MW of power. Community solar lets households benefit from a shared solar array without installing panels on their own roof. The projects represent more than $73 million in investment and were accepted into the state's JobsFirst Permitting Accelerator Program, an effort by Gov. Matt Meyer to speed up permitting for energy and infrastructure projects by coordinating reviews across state agencies.

State officials estimate these projects could cut electricity costs by 10 to 15% for more than 16,000 Delaware households. That means if you live in Delaware, you may be able to sign up to draw power from one of these shared solar arrays and see savings on your electric bill, even without putting anything on your own property.

If you want to know whether you're eligible or which projects are already approved, the Delaware Public Service Commission's website has details on how the state's community solar program works and lists the projects that have been given the green light. Since community solar programs and rules vary by state, it's worth checking your own state's offerings if you live outside Delaware.
