Custom Tile Trim

September 2, 2026 · Fine Homebuilding · Score: 24

Tile trim, the metal strips and corner pieces that cap off tile edges, usually comes in a handful of standard metallic finishes. Schluter-Systems, a maker of these trim products, has launched a program called MyDesign that lets you order select profiles, corner pieces, and shelf inserts in custom colors instead. The idea is to give more control over how the trim looks against your tile, whether you want it to disappear into the surrounding surface or stand out as a design accent.

The program works two ways. One option matches trim to any of about 190 standard colors from the RAL Classic system, a widely used European color-matching standard, through powder coating. The other uses high-resolution digital printing to make the trim look like stone, wood, concrete, or decorative tile, so it can blend with or echo the material around it.

Custom orders come with setup fees that depend on quantity: $350 for 10 to 99 pieces, $175 for 100 to 249 pieces, and no fee at all for orders of 250 pieces or more. That pricing structure suggests the program is aimed more at larger jobs than a single bathroom niche, though smaller orders are still possible. If you are planning a tile project and want trim that matches your countertop, cabinets, or tile pattern more precisely than the usual metallic options allow, this gives you another route to look into. Schluter's website lists which corner pieces, end caps, and other profiles currently qualify for the custom finishes.
