Cinergy Mobile Power Debuts Smart, Clean Mobile Energy Solutions for South Africa’s Film and Live Events Industries

July 11, 2026 · CleanTechnica · Score: 21

A South African company, Cinergy Mobile Power, has launched battery and solar systems meant to replace diesel generators on film sets and at outdoor events. The systems use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, which have gotten much cheaper in recent years, paired with solar panels to provide quiet, emissions-free power without needing fuel deliveries. Netflix used the systems for season two of "One Piece," running a solar-powered base camp in Cape Town for 24 weeks and cutting an estimated 78 tonnes of CO2 emissions, with a smaller off-site system saving another 15 tonnes. The company also powered a UK television production for a week and supplied electricity at the AfrikaBurn desert festival for nearly six weeks with only limited generator backup during peak demand.

This is industry news about production and events power, not home energy equipment, so it does not translate into anything a homeowner would install or apply for. That said, the underlying trend is worth noting: battery prices have dropped enough that companies are now replacing diesel generators with battery-solar systems in settings that once had no alternative to fossil fuel. That same price drop is part of what has made home battery storage and backup systems more affordable and common over the past several years, and further declines are expected to continue pushing costs down across the battery industry, including for products homeowners might consider for their own house.
