BYD’s flagship electric SUV has now topped 10,000 sales for 3 months straight

October 5, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 1

This is a car industry story rather than a home upgrade one, but here's what's happening. BYD, the Chinese electric vehicle maker, has a new flagship electric SUV called the Great Tang that's selling well in China, with more than 10,000 units sold each month for three months running and over 40,000 total since its June launch. It comes in both fully electric and plug-in hybrid versions, with the base electric model starting around $35,500 and a longer-range version starting near $40,000.

The longer-range version can go up to 590 miles on a charge, using a large battery pack, and supports fast charging that takes it from nearly empty to 70% in about five minutes. The SUV is large, bigger than some comparable American and Korean electric SUVs on the market.

For now, this is a China-only vehicle, though BYD has said it plans to bring it to Europe and other overseas markets by the end of 2026 or in early 2027. There's no mention of a US release. If you're weighing electric vehicles as part of a broader home energy upgrade, such as pairing an EV with home solar or a charger, this is a product to watch rather than one you can buy yet, since it's not available in the US market at this time.
