BYD Launches Major 44-Metric Ton Electric Truck in IAA Transport

September 23, 2026 · CleanTechnica · Score: 0

This one is about heavy freight trucks, not homes, but here's the gist. BYD, the Chinese automaker known for electric cars, unveiled a massive electric semi-truck at a trade show in Germany. The truck, called the ETT 44, can haul 44 metric tons and travel up to 372 miles on a single charge from its battery pack. BYD also showed off a fast-charging system that can refill the battery from 20 percent to 80 percent in about 20 minutes, adding roughly 248 miles of range.

The bigger story is Europe's push to cut emissions from freight trucking, with rules requiring a 45 percent cut in truck emissions by 2030 and 90 percent by 2040. That's pushing European truck makers like Volvo, Daimler, and Scania to build their own electric and hydrogen trucks. BYD is trying to undercut them by making its own batteries and offering a 10-year warranty, longer than the standard in the industry.

None of this changes anything about home energy upgrades or rebates. It's a sign that electric vehicle technology, including the flash-charging systems and battery designs BYD is using in trucks, is advancing on the commercial side too. But there's no homeowner program, incentive, or purchase decision tied to this news.
