BYD launches luxury Han EV with more than 1,000 km of range, starting at $35,000

This is car news, not a home energy story, but here is the gist. BYD, the Chinese automaker, just launched a new electric sedan called the Great Han in China, starting at roughly $35,000. It's a luxury flagship model with a battery that can take it over 1,000 kilometers (about 626 miles) on a single charge in its base version, using Chinese test standards that tend to run higher than US ones.

The car comes with a large battery pack, fast-charging tech that BYD says can take it from 10% to 70% charge in 5 minutes, and extras like adjustable air suspension and rear-wheel steering. It's roughly the size of a Mercedes S-Class and sits alongside BYD's other flagship SUV in its luxury lineup.

For now, this is a China-market release with no mention of US availability, pricing, or timeline. BYD vehicles are not currently sold in the US, so this does not affect what electric vehicle options, chargers, or incentives are available to American homeowners today. If you're weighing a home EV charger or solar setup against your own driving needs, this news does not change anything about your options or your utility bill. It's more a sign of how competitive and fast-moving the EV market is in China, where battery range and charging speed are advancing quickly.
