BYD Expands PH EV Lineup with Double Model Launch, Celebrates Sealion 6 Milestone

August 8, 2026 · CleanTechnica · Score: 0

This news is about car models sold in the Philippines, not U.S. home energy programs, but it may interest homeowners weighing an electric vehicle alongside upgrades like solar or a heat pump. BYD, the Chinese automaker, launched two new vehicles there: the Atto 2, a small crossover, and an updated Seal 5 DM-i sedan, both offered with plug-in hybrid options that combine a gas engine with a battery you charge and drive short distances on electric power alone.

The Atto 2 comes as a fully electric version with up to 380 kilometers of range, or as a plug-in hybrid with up to 45 kilometers of electric-only range and 1,340 kilometers combined range. The Seal 5 DM-i offers two plug-in hybrid trims, with electric-only range of 55 or 115 kilometers depending on battery size, and a combined range up to 2,181 kilometers. Prices range from about $15,600 to $22,000, with special financing running from July 28 to August 31, 2026, before standard pricing takes effect September 1. All models carry battery and drivetrain warranties of six to eight years.

None of this applies directly to U.S. rebate programs or home electrification, but it's a reminder that plug-in hybrids and EVs with home-charging batteries continue to expand globally. If you're pairing solar panels or battery storage at home with an EV purchase, it's worth checking what electric or plug-in hybrid options are actually sold and supported where you live, since availability and incentives vary widely by country and state.
