BYD builds 150,000th commercial NEV – an 800 hp Q3 electric semi truck
BYD, the Chinese EV maker, has now built its 150,000th commercial electric vehicle, marking the milestone with an electric semi truck called the Q3. The truck rolled off the line at BYD's plant in Huai'an, China. This is mostly industry news about trucking and freight, not something that affects home energy upgrades directly, but it's a sign of how fast electric trucking is scaling up worldwide.
The Q3 runs on a 600 kWh battery pack using BYD's lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry, the same stable, long-lasting battery type showing up in some home battery storage systems. Its twin motors put out about 800 horsepower, and it can reportedly haul up to 108,000 pounds roughly 200 miles on a charge. BYD says the truck can fast-charge from 20 to 80 percent in about 30 minutes using a dual-plug charging setup.
BYD sold nearly 6,850 of these electric trucks in September alone, up more than 113 percent from a year earlier, and has sold over 53,000 so far in 2026. That growth reflects a broader shift of heavy, diesel-burning trucks toward electric power, which can cut fuel use and emissions at a large scale. For homeowners, there's no direct program or rebate tied to this news, but it's part of the same battery technology trend showing up in home solar storage and backup power systems.
