BMW Sales Suffer In 3rd Quarter, With BEVs Only Real Bright Spot
BMW Group's overall sales fell in the third quarter, with drops across the BMW brand, Rolls-Royce, and BMW Motorrad, and a steep 24.8% decline in China. But fully electric vehicles were the exception: BMW Group sold 110,257 all-electric cars worldwide, up 7.2% from a year earlier. In Europe, electric models made up more than a third of all BMW Group deliveries, with sales there jumping 37.5%. In Germany specifically, electric BMW sales grew 38.5%.
The MINI brand stood out as the one part of the company with sales growth for the year so far, up 6.8% through the first nine months of 2026. More than a third of MINI's sales this year have been fully electric, helped by newer models like the John Cooper Works and the MINI Paul Smith Edition. A new Countryman Untamed Edition is also expected to boost sales.
For a homeowner thinking about an electric vehicle alongside other home energy upgrades, the takeaway is simple: even as traditional gas-powered sales slow down for major automakers like BMW, electric models are the part of the business actually growing. That trend mirrors what is happening in home energy more broadly, where electric options such as heat pumps are gaining ground as the more popular choice. If you are weighing an EV purchase alongside things like home electrification, this kind of sales data suggests electric options are becoming more mainstream, not less.
