AprilAire Introduces 1-Inch MERV 11 Air Filter
AprilAire has released a new one-inch air filter rated MERV 11, a scale that measures how well a filter traps dust and other small particles. The filter uses what the company calls TriPure Technology, which it says removes up to 88% of household dust and pollen while keeping airflow resistance low enough not to strain a home's heating and cooling system.
For homeowners, the main selling points are cleaner air and less frequent filter changes. AprilAire says the filter lasts up to six months, compared to the one- to three-month lifespan typical of many standard one-inch filters. That means fewer trips to swap it out, and it could fit naturally into a twice-yearly maintenance routine, such as changing it each spring and fall.
One-inch filters are the standard size in most home HVAC systems, so this is a straightforward swap rather than an equipment upgrade. If your system currently uses a lower-rated filter, moving to MERV 11 could improve indoor air quality without the higher airflow resistance that some high-efficiency filters cause, which can strain a furnace or air conditioner's blower over time. The filter is sold in various sizes through AprilAire's distributor network, so availability and pricing will depend on where you look.
