Apple and Schneider’s new smart thermostat could help cut your electric bill

October 14, 2026 · Electrek · Score: 38

Apple and Schneider Electric are launching a new smart thermostat for Apple's Home Collection, arriving in the US and Canada in early 2027. It costs $199.99, with optional room sensors for temperature and humidity priced at $39.99. For comparison, ecobee thermostats run $139.99 to $259.99, and Google Nest models cost $99 to $280.

The thermostat works through Apple's Home app, so you won't need a separate app or account, and you can control it with Siri. Its main feature is called Adaptive Temperature, which uses your iPhone to sense whether you're home, away, or asleep, and adjusts heating and cooling automatically instead of making you set a schedule. A related feature, Clean Energy Guidance, can shift your heating and cooling to times when electricity is cheaper or cleaner, but only if your utility offers a compatible plan and you're in the contiguous US. The Home app will show you energy use along with peak and off-peak rate times.

The thermostat connects using Matter and Thread, two standards that let smart home devices work together and stay connected to your network even if the internet goes down. Setup starts by holding an iPhone near the device, even before it's plugged in. Schneider also announced wall mounts for Apple's new HomeView panel, which will arrive at Apple stores starting November 13, with more connection options following in early 2027.
