Airthings' Space Radon Expands IAQ Monitoring Portfolio

October 5, 2026 · ACHR News · Score: 38

Airthings has released a new indoor air quality monitor called Space Radon, built mainly to track radon gas. Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that seeps up from the ground into buildings. It's invisible and odorless, but it's the second leading cause of lung cancer worldwide and the top cause among non-smokers, so knowing whether it's building up in your home matters. Levels can swing throughout the year, especially during radon season, which runs from October to April, which is why continuous monitoring gives a more accurate picture than a one-time test.

Beyond radon, the device also tracks carbon dioxide, humidity, temperature, air pressure, and light, and it uses cloud-connected software to estimate things like ventilation rate, mold risk, and virus risk. It runs on the same type of sensor technology (alpha spectrometry) that radon professionals use, and the battery is rated to last eight years, so it's meant to run continuously without much upkeep. It can be mounted on a wall or set on a table, and the display can show full readings, limited info, or nothing at all if you prefer it dark.

This product is aimed at Airthings' business customers, like offices and commercial buildings, rather than being marketed specifically for homes. Still, it's a sign that continuous radon monitoring tech is becoming more capable and lower-maintenance, which is useful background if you're weighing whether to test or monitor radon levels in your own house.
