2027 BYD Seal 06 Comes with Lidar

August 11, 2026 · CleanTechnica · Score: 1

This is a car news item, not a home energy upgrade story, but here's what happened. BYD, the Chinese automaker, is launching an updated 2027 version of its Seal 06 electric car. The new model adds lidar (a sensor that helps a car's driver-assist system detect objects around it) built into the roof and windshield area, along with an upgraded driver-assist system called God's Eye B. The current 2026 version, by comparison, uses a simpler system called God's Eye C and has no lidar.

The updated car also gets more power, with output rising from a range of 110 to 160 kilowatts up to 120 to 240 kilowatts. It comes in both a fully electric version and a plug-in hybrid version. The 2026 model sells for 109,800 yuan, or about $16,273, though pricing for the new 2027 version has not been confirmed. BYD sold more than half a million units of the Seal 06 last year in China.

For homeowners, this is not directly relevant to insulation, heat pumps, or home electrification rebates. It is simply a look at how quickly Chinese electric vehicle makers are adding advanced sensors and boosting power in mass-market cars. If you are weighing an EV purchase alongside home energy upgrades like a heat pump or an EV charger install, it is a reminder that vehicle technology and pricing in this segment are moving fast, though this particular model is not yet sold in the United States.
